Remember, it is vital with the application of any cleaning and sealing product, to first check the health and safety guidelines featured.
Sealing Tiles
Protect your tiled surfaces. The process of sealing, reduces the porosity of the tile, avoids staining and makes future maintenance much easier.
Quarry tiles, terracotta tiles, polished and textured porcelain tiles and all natural stone tiles can be sealed. There is no need to seal glazed ceramics, quality un-polished porcelain tiles or polished porcelain that have been factory sealed.
It is essential to clean the entire area prior to sealing. The initial sealing process takes place before grouting, as porous stone tiles can soak up stained water from the adhesive and grout. An additional final coat of sealant follows the grouting process to ensure complete saturation of the stone. It is advisable to seal front, back and sides of the more porous substances, such as Travertine, Terracotta and Limestone and to wear gloves whilst handling these products as finger print marks can stain the surface.
The type, and amount of tile seal required, depends on the type of material being sealed, particularly the absorbency rate. Lithofin and HG Hagesan offer a huge array of different sealers, some of which are equally effective on the same material type, but have different finishes, i.e. HG Natural Stone Shine Finish deepens the colour of the stone and creates a shine finish, whereas HG Marble and Stone Impregnator is an invisible sealer which does not change the nature of the tile and allows the stone to breathe. It is critical you use the correct seal for the correct tile type, as the wrong sealer can irrevocably damage the tile and result in an expensive renovation.

(if satin or gloss is the desired finish):
Aside from tiled surfaces you may find a number of other stone surfaces in your home, which would benefit from Lithofin or HG Hagesan sealants; for example a marble mantelpiece above a fireplace (open fires create carbon deposits which stain natural stone) would benefit from HG Marble and Stone Impregnator.
Sealing tiled surfaces is effective against permanent damage, and can keep the quality finish of the tiles for a lifetime if looked after properly. To ensure this, make sure you have the correct cleaning and maintenance products for your tiles.
Regular Tile Cleaning
Clean your tiled surfaces. Regular maintenance with the appropriate cleaning products is key to prolonging the life of any tiled surface and preserving the tiles quality finish.
The type of cleaner required is dependant on the properties of the tile, the sealant used, and the location of the tiled surface, i.e. kitchen floor or shower wall. Lithofin and HG Hagesan, cleaning and maintenance specialists, offer a huge array of different cleaning products to suit all requirements. The products sold on Tile Fix Direct are compatible with all sealants, whereas some household name brands, such as Flash, will clean the surface but will also strip the seals over a period of time.

Grout Cleaning & Renovation
Clean, colour and care. Grout maintenance can greatly affect the overall aesthetics of the room and create a healthier living environment.
Cleaning
Grout is a porous material, which over time can become discoloured and stain. Cleaning can certainly make a remarkable difference to the appearance of the tiled surfaces and drastically improve hygiene levels. Tiles are commonly used in bathrooms and kitchens to create a waterproof membrane, which is easy to clean and quick and accurate to install. The cleaning products must therefore be capable of tackling issues such as grease, limescale and mould.
Lithofin KF Grout Cleaner restores grout joints to wall and floor tile installations to their original colour and removes grease, oil and dirt deposits to make them hygienically clean and fresh.
HG Grout Cleaner deep cleans and degreases grout joints.
If yellow or brown stains are left behind after cleaning then these will need to be removed by HG Professional Limescale Remover (Hagesan Blue) and if black deposits appear, these can be removed with HG Mould Spray.
Colour
A colour grout kit is a dynamic product that will restore the aesthetics of the tile grout to its original state and eliminate variations in the existing grout colour. This process often surpasses what cleaning can achieve, especially when the grout has been severely stained or has discolouration. The tiles must be effectively cleaned prior to using the colour grout kit. The kit is can be used in addition to cleaning, to reach optimum results, not as an alternative.
HG Grout Colour White is a unique product for colouring or recolouring white joints between glazed wall tiles. Alternatively you can remove the existing grout and re-grout using Ardex coloured grouts.
Care
Left untreated after cleaning, grout quickly begins to accumulate soiling and bacteria again and is prone to staining and discolouration. To maintain the quality appearance of the grout the best solution is protection. Protection can easily be achieved by applying a grout sealer/protector to provide a stain resistant, water tight, durable surface.
HG Super Wall and Floor Grout Protector. Through the use of this product, the grout will become fully resistant to water, oils, grease and dirt.
Miscellaneous Cleaning
Essentials for specific cleaning requirements; Tile Fix Direct offers a wide selection of prevention and protection cleaning products from cleaning and maintenance specialist, Lithofin and HG Hagesan.
