Product Details
Ardex P51 Primer and Water Bonding Agent is a concentrated, blue synthetic, water-based, solvent-free primer used to prepare internal surfaces to receive cement-based levelling compounds, adhesives, screeds and plaster-based materials, improving adhesion and inhibiting penetration of water in intermittently damp locations. It is used as a pore sealer on floor surfaces to prevent air bubbles rising through subsequently applied sub-floor smoothing and levelling compounds, prolonging their flow life and workability. Only use as a primer on floors that are dry and have an effective damp proof membrane
Key Features
Coverage:
Timber floors
undiluted - 25m2
Smooth and non-porous substrates (e.g. prefabricated concrete floors and dense cement screeds etc.)
1 part primer : 0.5 part water - 25m2
Rough concrete subfloors and ceilings
1 part primer : 1 part water - 33m2
Power float concrete
1 part primer : 2 parts water - 60m2
Prepared gypsum plastered walls and absorbent, smooth calcium sulphate screeds
1 part primer : 3 parts water - 100m2
Porous or highly absorbent cement screeds
1 part primer : 5 parts water - 160m2
Note. the coverage will also vary slightly depending on the roughness of the surface and absorbency rate of the substrate
Inhibits the penetration of water through a substrate prior to receiving cement-based mortars and plaster-based materials
Suitable for use as a bonding agent, to improve adhesion to smooth, dense, concrete subfloors and cement-based screeds
Easy to use – dilute as appropriate for the application
Suitable for use on floors, walls and ceilings, including dense and porous surfaces
Ideal for sealing and priming gypsum based plasters and screeds including; wall plaster, cement-based screeds and anhydrite screeds
Suitable for use on conditioned plywood
Pore sealer - minimises air bubbles rising through levelling compounds and porous surfaces; extending their flow life and workability
Low odour and solvent free
Cost effective – up to 160m2 per 5kg
Instructions for use
Surface Preparation
Allow all new substrates to dry fully i.e. new concrete should be allowed to dry for a minimum of 6 weeks and new cement screeds for a minimum of 3 weeks
Check existing substrates are fully dry i.e. with flooring materials the screed should have an RH reading of no greater than 75% and, where direct to ground, protected by an effective damp proof membrane< /li>
The substrate must be firm and free from dust, water soluble materials, excess adhesive residues, polish, wax, grease and other barriers to adhesion
Ensure the ambient temperature and temperature of the surface being primed is above 5°C
Mixing & Application
Shake the container well before use and dilute, when required, by putting the Ardex P51 into a clean container and mixing it with the required quantity of water
Apply the priming coat evenly with a soft broom or brush
Leave to dry thoroughly to a clear, thin blue film
Recommendations
Ardex P51 Primer is NOT recommended for use on metal and mastic asphalt, excess residues, polyurethane and epoxy coatings; for this use Ardex P82 Water Dispersed Epoxy Primer
