HG Hagesan Clean and Seal

During the 1960s the University of Stockholm developed a range of cleaning products for use in swimming pools, which were branded HG after their creator, businessman Håkan Gip. In 1969, Dutch company Van Altena B.V. began importing the products, which had promising results in both swimming pools and the ceramic tile industry. When HG was bought by a Finnish company in the 1970s, Van Altena decided to buy the licenses and begin producing the products themselves, eventually shifting the focus on to the consumer market. In the 1990s HG expanded their factory and head office, and acquired exporters throughout Europe to accommodate the demand for their products. Today, HG have acquired many of these importers which, as in the UK, have become subsidiaries of the company.

Mouldex external paver before and after

Using LTP Mouldex Paving Cleaner

As this is an intensive cleaning product, precautions must be taken before use. Test a small inconspicuous area of your patio or paving before full use. Do not use if rain is imminent or on warm surfaces.

  • Shake the bottle well before use.
  • Sweep the surface of the paving to remove loose debris and organic matter.
  • Make sure the area to be cleaned is completely dry.
  • Pour the undiluted solution directly on to the stone or concrete, using a sponge or paint brush on smaller areas. For large spaces a garden spray bottle can be used for even application.
  • Leave the cleaning fluid to work for a minimum of 1 hour on lightly soiled surfaces and up to a maximum of 12 hours on heavily soiled surfaces.
  • Apply a little water and agitate with a stiff deck brush or emulsifying pad.
  • Thoroughly rinse with water using a hose or a jet wash.
  • If stubborn stains or black spot remain you can leave the LTP Mouldex Paving Cleaner to work overnight. Some black spot will fade and disappear after a few days, if not you can re-apply.

NOTE: keep pets off paving at all times during treatment. If the solution comes into contact with metal, fabric or painted surfaces rinse immediately with water. Avoid contact with plants, rinse well with plenty of water if this does happen.

To further protect your newly cleaned patio you can seal the stone or concrete with LTP Mattstone H2O Impregnating Sealer which will reduce the growth of algae and black spot by preventing moisture and organic matter from absorbing into the stone.

Creating a level floor with Norcros 2-Part Levelling Compound

levelling compound

Norcros 2-Part Levelling Compound is an easy-to-use self leveller for your floor, made up of a 20kg bag of powder and a 5kg bottle of liquid. It is ideal for internal use on a variety of flooring types, including soft and hard coverings.

This self smoothing, ammonia-free combination is suitable for use with underfloor heating, and can level between feather edge to 10mm in one application without requiring additional granite chippings. Designed to be used for a bed thickness of 3-50mm. Norcros 2-Part Levelling Compound is sold with Norcros’ Lifetime guarantee.

Before the application of the Norcros 2-Part Self Levelling Compound you must ensure the floor meets the relevant preparation guidelines.

Substrate Preparation
Concrete The concrete you plan on levelling must be at least 6 weeks old.
Cement: Sand Screed The screed must have been in place for a minimum of 21 days.
Heated Floors Once levelling has been applied, the heating should not be turned on for 2 weeks.
Existing Vinyl Tiles & Asphalt Ensure the surface is unbroken and in a good condition before applying the levelling compound.
Existing Glazed Tiles Any existing tiles must be able to support the additional weight of the levelling compound as well as the additional weight of tiling. Ensure tiles are clean before applying a first coat.
Plywood On Existing Timber Floors The overlay is required to be at least 15-18mm thick, and must be screwed to the existing floor and joists. Seal all faces of the plywood with Norcros Prime Bond and allow to dry.

Read the Norcros 2-Part Levelling Compound Data Sheet for more information on preparation.

Setting Out

By rotating a 2 metre spirit level, at floor level, determine where gaps are present between the base and the straight edge. Mark any gaps of more than 3mm with chalk.

Pour the 5kg bottle containing the 2-Part Levelling Compound Liquid into a suitable container. Then incorporate the 20kg of Norcros 2-Part Levelling Compound Powder slowly, mixing with a rotary drill paddle. This should form a lump-free liquid compound with a creamy consistency.

Pour this compound onto the floor and then use a trowel to spread it out to the depth required. There is no need to smooth it out completely as the product is self smoothing.

After approximately 3-4 hours at 20°C the product can support the weight of light foot traffic, and you can begin tiling with ceramic or porcelain tiles. However you must leave Norcros 2-Part Levelling Compound for approximately 12 hours at 20°C before it can support soft floor coverings, and for natural stone tiles it must be left for 48 hours. Please note that these times will be extended in cold and reduced in high temperature conditions.

The Norcros-2 Part Levelling Compound is available to order online on Tile Fix Direct.

Genesis Easy Level System

Any tiler will tell you that creating a level and even tiled surface is not always easy. There are many factors that come into creating a perfect finish with tiles, which is why the Genesis Easy Level System is a popular choice for tilers everywhere. Benefits Of Installing BAL Rapid-Mat Uncoupling Matting

BAL Rapid-Mat uncoupling matting is designed for use on floors with limited movement and floor coverings, such as tiles, that require zero movement. BAL Rapid-Mat prevents reflective cracking caused by lateral movement, shrinkage cracks and board joints. It can be used for installing ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles, and concrete pavers.

Timber and heated screeds can also cause movement and lateral stresses that can result in tiles cracking or debonding. Uncoupling the floor and tile covering, by installing a separating material like BAL Rapid-Mat between the two surfaces, allows the floor to move independently and isolates the floor covering from the shrinkage and stresses in the floor.

The Benefits of BAL Rapid-Mat

  • Suitable for installations in kitchens, bathrooms and wet rooms
  • Recommended for applications with heated floors and timber floors
  • Helps to prevent cracking
  • Allows for safe installation onto challenging substrates
  • Perfect for internal flooring
  • Suitable for commercial areas
  • Tiling can commence immediately after laying
  • 20% less adhesive required (compared to other popular decoupling mats)
  • Lightweight: only 8.5kg per 30m roll
  • Easy to cut and place
  • Minimises tension stresses caused between the substrate and the floor
  • Sold with a manufacturer’s guarantee of 25 years
  • Suitable for the majority of tile types, including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone and mosaics.
  • Minimises height build up: less than 1mm thickness
  • Can be easily cut using a utility knife

BAL Rapid-Mat is lightweight and compact, meaning storing and transporting it is easy. It is also extremely easy to use, follow the below application method for installing BAL Rapid-Mat.

Application Method

  1. Ensure the substrate is load bearing and even
  2. Prime or level the floor if necessary using a suitable product
  3. Apply a thin layer of suitable BAL flexible tile adhesive to bond the BAL Rapid-Mat
  4. Lay the BAL Rapid-Mat into the tile adhesive
    • Check the mat has fully engaged into the adhesive
  5. Smooth out the matting using the flat edge of a steel trowel or any other suitable trowel, eliminating any air pockets
  6. Where additional membrane is needed on the floor, do not overlap separate mats
    • Note: The matting must always be separated where there is a change in substrate, or a construction/movement joint is present in the background
  7. Remove any excess tile adhesive that may have been squeezed through the joints
  8. Tiles can now be installed
    • The tile adhesive must not exceed 6mm above the BAL Rapid-Mat
    • Avoid debonding the mat while applying adhesive and tiles.)
