A smooth and level subfloor is essential when installing new flooring in a property. But when the subfloor itself isn't level this can be difficult to achieve - this is why we stock a number of floor levelling compounds here at Tile Fix Direct, helping you to achieve a level floor for tiling and other floor coverings.
Self levelling compounds are designed to level and smooth the sub floor and are great for use with large format tile slabs that require a very flat base. Available in single-part and two-part varieties, self levelling compounds are also ideal for use with underfloor heating to create a smooth, flat layer over the top. These general purpose levelling compounds are perfect when you're preparing to install new floors, and they are suitable to use on many new and existing subfloors and substrates.
Self levelling compounds are made from polymer modified cement that doesn't need large amounts of water for placement. This increased flow characteristic makes it perfect for levelling applications as the compound uses gravity to self level. You can even use it to encase under floor heating pipes and once it sets you have a strong and level plane to work with.
Be sure to check the instructions on the pack of self levelling compound so that you prepare it correctly - this is an important part of achieving a smooth floor. Once you have achieved the consistency stated for each product - mix and apply. The temperature and conditions that it is poured in will impact on the amount of time the product takes to dry, so factor this in to your calculations as it must be completely dry before tiling can commence.
