Ardex WPC White Waterproof Protection Coat (10kg)

Ardex WPC creates a protective waterproof coating that prevents leaks & water damage to internal walls, floors and adjoining wet areas - the ideal solution for tanking wet rooms. This rapid drying flexible waterproof coating is white and can be used on backgrounds such as cement or gypsum plaster, plasterboard or wood-based materials in domestic or commercial kitchens, showers and bathrooms. It can also be used for sealing internal corners between walls, filling holes, joints and gaps around pipes, baths and showers.

The Ardex WPC system is quick & easy to apply with a roller, paintbrush, or even a trowel. The box even includes free roller & scrim tape to make your install easier. Its Rapid dry formula allows tiling to commence after just ninety minutes with an average coverage of two coats being approximately 6.6m2 per unit.

DESCRIPTION

ARDEX WPC and ARDEX WPC W are cementbased, rapid drying, waterproof coatings that allow tiling to commence after just 90 minutes. With an adjustable mix ratio, ARDEX WPC and ARDEX WPC W can be used to fill holes, gaps and joints, as well as for general waterproofing application.

USE

ARDEX WPC and ARDEX WPC W are used to waterproof backgrounds such as cement and sand render, gypsum plaster, or plasterboard prior to fixing tiles in domestic or commercial kitchens, showers and bathrooms.

NOTE: BS 5385-1 advises that plywood and other wood-based sheets or boards should not be used for direct tiling. Timber-based sheets should be replaced or oversheeted with plasterboard, or suitable tile backer board, prior to applying ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W.

NOTE: Concrete floors and cement and screeds may also be protected from the ingress of surface water by the application of ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W.

PREPARATION

Surfaces must be dry, rigid, sound and free of oil, dust, dirt or other barriers to adhesion. Gypsum plaster must be dry and of adequate strength to support the weight of the tiling. Any boarded background must be able to support the tiles, and be rigidly and securely fixed with closely spaced screws to comply with the appropriate BS 5385 requirement.

NOTE: Moisture sensitive backgrounds should be protected from moisture ingress from behind i.e. external walls should be of a cavity type or suitably protected solid single skin construction.

MIXING

Mix One

A slump-free, trowelable paste to seal internal corners between walls, fill holes and plug joints and gaps around pipes, baths and showers is produced by mixing the two components in the ratio of:

0.7 parts ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W

Liquid to 1 part ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W Powder by weight.

Mix Two

A flowing consistency for application by brush or paint roller is produced by mixing the two components in the ratio of:

1 part ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W Liquid to

1 part ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W Powder by weight.

The mixed ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W has a pot life of approximately 45 minutes at 20°C.

This time will be shortened at high temperatures and extended at low temperatures.

Once the mixed material begins to set and thicken, discard the material and do not add extra ARDEX WPC Liquid.

APPLICATION

Use Mix One for application with a spatula, pallet knife or trowel for sealing joints in corners and filling holes and gaps around fixtures, pipes, etc., prior to applying two coats of Mix Two. Where joints tend to crack, they should be reinforced with ARDEX Mesh Scrim Tape prior to applying Mix One. To fill uneven areas with a trowel, a single application of Mix One, at least 3mm thick, is required to obtain an effective waterproof protection coat (no overcoating with Mix Two is necessary).

Mix Two should be used to give a complete coating on the surface, applying it evenly with a paint brush or roller, and working the material well into the corners with a brush. To obtain an effective waterproof protection layer, a second coat will be necessary and the total thickness should be at least 0.8mm. The second coat of Mix Two can be applied approximately 30 minutes after the first coat. Ceramic tiles, mosaics, etc., can be fixed onto the second coat after approximately 1 hour at 20°C. The drying time will be shortened at high temperatures and extended at low temperatures.

Do not apply ARDEX WPC or ARDEX WPC W at temperatures below 5°C.

TILE FIXING

Tiles can be fixed with an ARDEX Cement Based Tile Adhesive e.g. ARDEX X 325 PTB, ARDEX MICROTEC X 77 or ARDEX MICROTEC X 78, and grouted with ARDEX-FLEX Flexible Tile Grout. Alternatively, for areas where chemical resistance and hygienic joints are required, ARDEX EG 8 PLUS Easy to Apply and Clean Epoxy Tile Grout should be used.

PACKAGING

ARDEX WPC Liquid is packaged in polyethylene containers - net weight 5kg.

ARDEX WPC Powder is packaged in paper sacks incorporating a polyethylene liner - net weight 5kg.

STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE

ARDEX WPC and ARDEX WPC W must be stored in unopened packaging, clear of the ground in cool dry conditions and be protected from excessive draught. If stored correctly, as detailed above, the shelf life is 12 months from the date shown on the packaging.
