Product Feature: Ardex WPC Waterproof Pro Tanking Kit

Here at Tile Fix Direct, we’re always stressing the importance of waterproofing a wet room or shower area in a bathroom. By waterproofing the area, you’re increasing the longevity of both the tiles and the entire waterproofed area.

TheArdex WPC Waterproof PRO Tanking Kit is a great kit that can be used to tank the required area. Let’s take a further look into the product.

What is included?

Ardex WPC Waterproof Pro Tanking Kit consists of two components.

  1. Solvent free acrylic dispersion
  2. Reactive cement-based powered

When the two components are mixed together, they can be modified to provide a non-flowing consistency or a brushable consistency.

What is its use?

We briefly mentioned above that the kit is used to waterproof any area that is needed. This particular tanking kit can be used to waterproof backgrounds such as cement and gypsum plaster, plasterboard, or wood-based materials.

It is great for use in domestic or commercial kitchens, showers, bathrooms, and wet rooms.

The Ardex WPC Tanking Kit can also be used to seal internal corners between walls, joints and gaps around pipes, and baths and showers prior to fixing ceramic tiles.

What is the preparation before waterproofing the area?

In order to correctly apply the mixture, the surfaces must be dry, rigid, sound, and free of oil, dust, dirt or other barriers to adhesion.

What should be known about mixing the two components?

If a non-flowing consistency is required:

Mix the quantity needed by combining the components in the ratio of 0.7 parts Ardex WPC liquid to 1 part Ardex WPC powder by weight (Mix No. 1).

If a brushable consistency is required:

Mix the quantity needed by combining the components in the ratio of 1 part Ardex WPC liquid to 1 part Ardex WPC power by weight (Mix No. 2).

Once mixed, Ardex WPC has a pot life of about 45 minutes at 20 degrees C. Be sure to discard any mixture that begins to set and thicken before application – don’t add more liquid Ardex WPC.

What’s the best way to apply Ardex WPC?

Mix No. 1:

Use this mix for application with a spatula/pallet knife/trowel for sealing joints in corners, filling holes and gaps around fixtures, and prior to applying the two coats of Mix No. 2.

If needed, use Mix. No. 1 to level uneven areas with a trowel and apply at 3mm thick.

Mix No. 2:

Use this mix to give a complete coating on the surface. Apply it evenly with a paintbrush or roller. To completely waterproof the desired area, it is necessary to apply a second coat. The total thickness should be at least 0.8mm.

Application of the second coat of Mix No. 2 can be applied 30 minutes after the first coat. Once the second coat dries for about an hour, it will be ready to accept ceramic tiles, mosaics, etc.

Note: Do not apply Ardex WPC at temperatures below 5 degrees C.

Are there any precautions?

Although Ardex WPC is considered non-hazardous with normal use, the presence of cement in the Ardex WPC powder does produce an alkaline mortar that may cause some irritation if there is prolonged contact with the skin.

Avoid inhalation or ingestion of dust and prevent contact with eye.
