Dural Durabase FGT Reinforcing and Decoupling Mat

Dural Durabase FGT Reinforcing and Decoupling Mat

Decoupling matting is frequently used in tiling projects to protect the tiled floor from any movement in the subfloor, but what if you need additional reinforcement as well as uncoupling? Dural Durabase FGT is a reinforcing and decoupling mat that improves stability against cracking and stiff substrates.

"DURABASE FGT is the latest generation of reinforcement mats, which thanks to the choice of materials and their construction, guarantee maximum strength yet at the same time are flexible enough to compensate for any stress which may occur. This makes it the safe choice for all types of floor coverings that need to be installed on substrates with insufficient load-bearing characteristics."

Features & benefits of Durabase FGT

What makes Durabase FGT different from CI++ or other decoupling mats? Here are some of the key features:

  • Only 1.5 mm thick - ideal for renovation projects
  • Loads of up to 15,500 N (measurement D = 2.25 cm)
  • Adhesive tensile strength of 1.1 N/mm²
  • Bending strength of 400,000 cycles at a deflection of 1.8 mm
  • Crack bridging
  • Suitable for indoor & outdoor use

Where to use Durabase FGT

Durabase FGT is ideal for renovation projects thanks to it's low height once installed - it can be laid on a 2mm or 3mm adhesive bed. The thin decoupling matting can be used on old tiles, OSB board and cracked screeds. Once the matting is down you can install tiles, natural stone, parquet, laminate, carpet or designer floor coverings. Durabase FGT is also suitable for use with all common underfloor heating systems.

The matting is 1 metre wide and available in a variety of lengths from single metres up to full 30 metre rolls.

How to install Durabase FGT

  1. Ensure the substrate is dry, level and free from any loose parts. Apply a suitable base coat or adhesive primer to the prepared substrate in accordance with the manufacturer instructions.
  2. Wearing gloves, cut the matting to size using a knife or scissors.
  3. Mix a suitable tile adhesive according to the manufacturers instructions and apply using a 4mm or 6mm notched trowel.
  4. Place the matting with the non-woven side facing down into the adhesive and press firmly - there' no need to overlap the mat joints. To avoid friction on the connections, maintain open end joints of 5 – 10 mm. When aligning the mats, note that cracks should be bridged at a right angle when possible and the joints of adjacent mats should have an offset of at least 30 cm (no cross joints).
  5. Allow the adhesive to fully cure before installing your chosen floor covering.
